Bespoke pricing available for trade clients on orders of four or more pieces.

Why suar wood is the statement-piece hardwood

Suar (Samanea saman, also called monkeypod or rain tree) is a fast-growing tropical hardwood native to Indonesia, prized for three properties that no other tropical hardwood combines. First, exceptional trunk diameter — mature suar trees can reach 1.5m or more in diameter, allowing single-slab tabletops up to 3m long without joins. Second, dramatic figured grain — characterful, with wide variation in tone from pale cream to deep walnut within a single slab. Third, density and durability comparable to teak. The result is wood that becomes the design of a piece — the live edge, the figured grain, and the warm tonal variation are the architectural statement.

Suar wood vs teak — which to choose

Teak is denser, oilier, more weather-resistant, and more uniform in tone — the choice for outdoor furniture, clean architectural pieces, and contexts where the wood plays a supporting role. Suar is more dramatic in grain, allows wider single-slab pieces (live-edge dining tables, statement coffee tables), and has more visible tonal variation — the choice for pieces where the wood is the statement. A coastal villa might use teak for the chairs and benches and suar for the dining table that anchors the room. Both are excellent hardwoods from related Indonesian workshop traditions.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy suar wood dining tables in Spain?

Laiyahome ships handcrafted suar wood dining tables across Spain. Standard delivery is 5-21 days from European stock; larger live-edge pieces ship via white-glove or palletised freight on request. The collection serves villa interiors across Mallorca, Ibiza, Marbella, and Madrid's design-led residential market.

How much does a suar wood dining table cost?

Smaller suar tables (coffee tables, side tables) start around €350-€650. Standard suar dining tables €1,200-€2,800. Statement live-edge dining tables (2.5m+ in length, oversized slabs) €3,000-€6,000+. Pricing depends on slab size, age character, and whether the piece is reclaimed or new-growth.

Is suar wood sustainable?

Suar grows quickly compared to most tropical hardwoods — it's a relatively fast-maturing tree, which makes it among the more sustainable tropical timbers in luxury furniture. Many of our suar pieces use slabs from trees harvested at maturity rather than from old-growth forests.

What's the difference between suar wood and monkeypod?

They're the same wood — Samanea saman. 'Suar' is the Indonesian name used widely in furniture making; 'monkeypod' is the common English/Hawaiian name. Both refer to the same fast-growing tropical hardwood prized for wide slabs and figured grain.

Can I order matching suar pieces for a boutique hotel?

Yes. Bespoke pricing applies to orders of four or more pieces. For boutique hotels seeking matched live-edge suar pieces (lobby tables, restaurant communal tables, lounge coffee tables), project consultation is available — though buyers should note that no two suar slabs are identical, so 'matched' means stylistic match rather than identical pieces.
